Those Talented Scholars Don’t Always Have the Best Practical Public Policy Solutions
Many people believe that academic scholars make the best advisors to government. This is because as a society we believe that those that are professors in the top universities and colleges in the nation are the smartest, and the most well educated. However it was Calvin Coolidge that said there are lots of educated derelicts.
Another issue is one that concerns the business community; if you have academics advising governments on which regulations to make but those professors serving in government have never actually had to make a paycheck or never actually run a business for profit, then you are liable to get some pretty bad advice.
